Label TextWood Nymph is typical of the allegorical figures that populate Walker’s murals, and that were strongly influenced by the French artist Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. In a 1906 letter to the Academy he stressed the painting’s undefined subject: “The little figure I sent never had any name. I think it might be called ‘Wood Nymph.’”
