Label TextHenry Inman probably first became acquainted with Edward Mooney when the latter enrolled in the National Academy's antique school in 1831. The two artists soon became friends and around 1837 Mooney entered Inman's studio as a pupil. This portrait was probably painted around 1840 while Mooney was still working in Inman's studio. During the same period Mooney executed a portrait of Inman for the Academy's collection (below).
