Label TextPainted in Paris, this elegant interior displays a young couple engaged in intimate conversation during tea. Thorne creates a sense of informality, evident in the casual placement of the tennis racquet on the floor and the relaxed poses of the figures. This affluent milieu, seen especially in the lovely still life arrangement on the table and overhanging shelf, is bathed in a light, softly filtered through the diaphonous curtains. In this sensuous and dusky atmosphere, the figures are rendered with the solid modeling of form typical to the American translation of French Impressionism.
