Label TextAlthough Jarvis was not a member of the Academy, he was well known and respected by its officers. The Academy's minutes for January 13, 1840 record his death with deep regret. Realizing that Jarvis had died in poverty, the Academy's officers also wished to assist his family, and in the same meeting they voted to appropriate the sum of thirty dollars for the purchase of "such drawing or other work belonging to Mr. Jarvis." Two days later, Thomas Cummings reported to the Council that the purchase had been made.
